According to reports, there is an increasing interest among Nigerian students wanting to study overseas. Nearly 150,000 Nigerian students were enrolled abroad in 2022.
Their preferred destinations are the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK, while many are reportedly also increasingly exploring a wider range of locations.
Here are a few scholarships to take into consideration if you’re one of the many Nigerian students hoping to pursue their undergraduate or master’s degree overseas.
Bilateral Education Agreement Scholarships
The Nigeria Federal Government Scholarship Awards for the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) are open to students from Nigeria. There are scholarships available for undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs.

Reach Oxford Scholarship
The oldest English-speaking institution in the world is reportedly the University of Oxford in the UK. The Reach Oxford Scholarship is available to students from Nigeria and covers tuition, living expenses, and one round-trip flight each year. The selection procedure will be carried out in March 2024 for applicants for 2024 admission who submit their applications by the scholarship deadline of February 7, 2024.

Entrance Scholarship for African Students Studying in English
The Scholarship for African Students Studying in English program at the University of Ottawa in Canada aims to highlight the university’s diversity. For students enrolled full-time in the university’s undergraduate programs provided in English or with the French Immersion option in particular programs under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty Science, this offer is automatic; no application is required.
